Resolution on The World Council of Conservative Synagogues/Masorti Olami

WHEREAS Masorti Judaism is a worldwide movement whose purpose is to strengthen traditional Judaism in the modern world; and

WHEREAS the absence of Jewish religious pluralism in so many Jewish communities deprives contemporary Jews of attractive options for remaining involved as Jews; and

WHEREAS Masorti Judaism offers a uniquely desirable synthesis of Jewish tradition and integration with modern life, a vision of the kehillah as all-encompassing, a rabbinate trained to build and sustain contemporary Jewish communal life, thereby combating the forces of assimilation and indifference to Judaism.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Rabbinical Assembly applaud the renewed efforts of the World Council of Masorti/Conservative Synagogues together with the RA and the other global arms of the Masorti Movement in supporting existing Masorti kehillot and creating new ones in Israel, in the European continent, in England, in South America, in Australia, in the FSU and everywhere Jews reside, to find rabbinic leadership and other necessary personnel for these kehillot and to establish appropriate institutions to facilitate the training of native born rabbis, educators and youth leaders; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Rabbinical Assembly endorse the establishment, in Jerusalem, of the central offices of the Masorti Judaism's World Council, and the name change to Masorti Olami; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that members of the Rabbinical Assembly are urged to work with the leadership of all arms of the Conservative/ Masorti Movement to find appropriate funding to finance the worldwide growth and success of Masorti Judaism.
