The RA Memorial Book gets published annually and contains biographies, birth and death dates, and other information about RA members and their spouses who have passed away since the previous year. 

What we are seeking: An individual with strong collaboration and communication skills whose primary focus will be to edit, fact check, and coordinate materials for the Memorial Booklet.  We are seeking a detail-oriented individual looking for part-time hours who will: 

 

  • Publication Editing
    • Drafting and collaborating with families on deceased members’ bios, copy-editing and fact-checking as needed. Translating editors’ notes into document edits. 
  • Coordination
    • Gathering materials that may include scans and files on the individuals being memorialized. 
    • Outreach  and condolences to the family members of the deceased that includes gathering of information, approval of obituaries, invites to the Memorial Azkarah ceremony, and mailing of physical and PDF booklets to family members and other members upon request.
    • Liaise with members or family members who helped write obituaries.
  • Project Management
    • Track the status of multiple components of the project.
    • Delivery of drafts of deceased members’ bios to editor and surviving relatives.
    • Meet with editor and publisher to push the publication process forward. 
    • Updating information in internal CRMs. 

 

Required Skills/Experience

  • Experience in editing, communications, or a related field. 
  • Eye for editorial consistency and grammatical accuracy
  • Working knowledge of databases and CRMs a plus. 
  • Superb language and writing skills. Creative writing abilities highly recommended.
  • Ability to manage and execute numerous projects simultaneously
  • Ability to handle formal written correspondence including physical letters.
  • Flexible and willing to work as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, follow-up, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Jewish life, some Hebrew proficiency.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Suite; video communication technologies (Zoom).

Reports to: Memorial Book Editor

Location: This position is mostly remote but requires occasional access to the RA’s NYC office for purposes of scanning files and mailing letters. 

Hours and Pay: 5-10 hours per week, paid at $22/hour

About the Rabbinical Assembly:

The Rabbinical Assembly is the international association of Conservative/Masorti rabbis. Its ranks include rabbis ordained at the seminaries of the Conservative/Masorti movement as well as rabbis of other accredited rabbinical schools who accept the tenets of Conservative Judaism. Its nearly 1,600 members serve as congregational rabbis, educators, military and hospital chaplains, professors of Judaica, and officers of communal service organizations throughout the world. While the majority of its members serve in the United States and Canada, more than ten percent of its rabbis serve in Israel and many of its rabbis serve in Latin America, in the countries of Europe, Australia and South Africa.
