The Rabbinical Assembly, the international membership organization of Conservative rabbis is hiring a Publications Director.
Responsibilities:
Strategy:
- Create a business model for the department including establishing a strategic direction and setting goals and metrics for the department
- Develop a marketing strategy to increase sales and raise awareness for the brand
- Drive the development of new publications by working with committees, authors, editors, and other vendors
- Work to obtain sponsors for future new publications to underwrite development
Operations:
- Liaise with book distributor- keeping track of stock and placing new orders for printing when necessary
- Project management of new publication process (from conception to printing)
- Management of existing titles (reprint decisions, permissions)
- Maintain budget for department
Content:
- Provide excellent customer service including answering questions from potential customers about content for current titles
- Handle permission requests for excerpting our copyrighted material
- Create digital versions of select titles and exploring other opportunities to make content available digitally
- Look into the feasibility of translating select titles into Spanish or Hebrew
Requirements:
- 5 years relevant professional experience
- Ability to manage and execute numerous projects simultaneously
- Ability to resolve issues in a quick and timely manner
- Adept at creating and implementing tracking and reporting systems
- Excellent professional writing and editing skills
- Flexible and willing to work as part of a team
- Customer service orientation with strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Hebrew and familiarity with the content of RA titles
Salary: $80-85k, commensurate with experience.

About the Rabbinical Assembly:
The Rabbinical Assembly, first established in 1901 by graduates of the rabbinical school of the Jewish Theological Seminary, is the international association of Conservative/Masorti rabbis. Today its ranks include rabbis ordained at the seminaries of the Conservative/Masorti movement as well as rabbis of other accredited rabbinical schools who accept the tenets of Conservative Judaism. Its nearly 1,700 members serve as congregational rabbis, educators, military and hospital chaplains, professors of Judaica, and officers of communal service organizations throughout the world. While the majority of the men and women of the Assembly serve in the United States and Canada, more than ten percent of its rabbis serve in Israel and many of its rabbis serve in Latin America, in the countries of Europe, Australia and South Africa.
