Rabbinical Assembly Statement on the Release of Edan Alexander

May 12, 2025

With profound relief and joy, we welcome Edan Alexander‘s return home after 584 days in Hamas captivity. We pray for his healing, his family’s strength, and the freedom of all remaining hostages.

We are grateful to the Trump administration for its unrelenting efforts on Edan’s behalf. We urge continued diplomatic pressure to secure the release of the remaining hostages of all nationalities. Every life is precious, and every hostage must come home.

In Edan’s return, we call upon the government of Israel to do everything in its power to facilitate the return of the remaining 58 captives, even at the cost of immediately ending the war. We pray this leads us to the fulfillment of the biblical promises:

“And there is hope for your future —declares God: Your children shall return to their country.” (Jeremiah 31:17)

“Be not dismayed O’ Israel, I will deliver you from far away, your folk from the land of captivity, and Jacob again shall have calm and quiet, with no one to trouble them.” (Jeremiah 46:27)
