Proclamation Celebrating the 65th Anniversary of the State of Israel

Whereas the book of Psalms teaches and we recite in our liturgy, “When Adonai restored our exiles to Zion, it was like a dream.” (Psalms 126:1), the Jewish People began achieving that dream sixty five years ago with the establishment of the State of Israel; 

Whereas in Iyar, Israel celebrated its 65th year of independence as a democratic Jewish State in the land promised to our ancestors;

Whereas Conservative/Masorti Judaism embraced Zionism early on and promoted the centrality of a Jewish homeland in Israel;

Resolution on Aliyah

WHEREAS the State of Israel was founded as a homeland for the Jewish people; and

WHEREAS we recognize yeshuv ha'aretz and aliyah as mitzvot; and

WHEREAS we recognize the central contribution made to Israel through our rabbis, professionals, and lay leaders who have fulfilled this mitzvah.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Rabbinical Assembly call upon the State of Israel to support the Masorti programs of aliyah sponsored by Tnuat AM, the Movement for Masorti aliyah, and the shaliah for aliyah to the Conservative Movement in North America; and
