Time to Act for the Rohingya

Posted on: Tuesday December 4, 2018
The Rabbinical Assembly 2018 Resolution on the Rohingya Crisis calls for us to take action to move our elected officials to stop the genocide of the Rohingya people in Burma. An important Resolution, H. Res. 1091 is going to be voted upon soon calling attacks on Rohingya a genocide*. The passage of this resolution by the House of Representatives this week will send a clear sign to Secretary Pompeo and the Trump Administration that America desires to bring justice to the Rohingya and accountability to the Burmese perpetrators of violence.

*A human rights law group contracted by the U.S. State Department to investigate atrocities against Rohingya called it a genocide. The United States Holocaust Museum also said today that the Burmese military committed a genocide against the Rohingya.

Please make 3 important calls today:

1. Call your U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Ask to speak to your Congressional Representatives. Request that they support H. Res. 1091.

2. Call the Secretary of State's office at (202) 647-4000, and select option "4" to speak to an operator and request to be transferred to the Public Comment Line to convey the following message to Secretary of State Pompeo's office: "I am calling to request that Secretary Pompeo listen to the House of Representative's position with the passage of H.Res. 1091 and determine the Rohingya atrocities to be genocide. I sincerely appreciate the State Department's Rohingya survey. I hope that the Secretary will make the morally responsible decision to save the Rohingya and deliver justice by imposing full sanctions, except food and medicine, on Burma."

3. Call the White House comment line: (202) 456-1111. Dial this number: (202)-456-1414 and ask to make a public comment for the President. Say the following: "President Trump needs to listen to the House of Representatives position as the Rohingya atrocities to be genocide and ask the State Department to declare Burmese crimes against Rohingyas a genocide! I thank our government for the aid sent to Rohingyas. I hope that the President will make the morally responsible decision to deliver justice for the Rohingya by imposing full sanctions, except food and medicine, on Burma."
