Resolution Regarding Magen David Adom

Whereas since the founding of Magen David Adom (MDA), it has not been recognized in the International Committee of the Red Cross or the Red Cross/Red Crescent International Federation due to its use of the symbol of the red Magen David as its emblem; and

Whereas for twenty six years, the American Red Cross has stood firmly behind the MDA in its quest for membership, withholding dues to the International Federation and voluntary overhead contribution to the International Committee and asserting that the exclusion of the MDA from the Movement and Federation is “a betrayal of Red Cross fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, unity and universality.”

Therefore be it resolved that the Rabbinical Assembly strongly support the effort of the Magen David Adom to enter the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement using the emblem of the Jewish people.

Be it further resolved that the Rabbinical Assembly acknowledge with deep gratitude the assistance and cooperation of the American Red Cross and strongly urge its continued support of the just quest of the MDA.

Passed by the Rabbinical Assembly Plenum, February, 2004
